Why Chess Grandmaster Refuses To Play In Iran

Why Chess Grandmaster Refuses To Play In Iran

A U.S. CHESS CHAMPION REFUSES TO
TRAVEL TO IRAN FOR ONE OF THE CHAMPIONSHIPS BECAUSE SHE
BELIEVES THAT HER BEING FORCED TO WEAR A HIJAB
GOES AGAINST WHAT SHE BELIEVES AND ALSO PLAYS A ROLE IN
OPPRESSING WOMEN IN THE COUNTRY. THIS STORY HAS TO DO WITH A
CHESS PLAYER THAT WAS ACTUALLY BORN IN EUROPE AND SHE IS A
CHESS SUPER STAR. SHE IS THE TOP CHESS PLAYER,
FEMALE PLAYER, IN THE UNITED STATES. THERE IS SUPPOSED TO BE A CHESS
CHAMPIONSHIP IN IRAN. IRAN IS GOING TO HOST IT SO THEY
ARE GOING TO GET WHAT THEY WANT BUT THERE ARE LAWS IN IRAN
SAYING THAT WOMEN CANNOT BE SEEN IN PUBLIC WITHOUT WEARING A
HIJAB. AS A RESULT, NOT SEE WHO IS THE
CHEST CHAMPION THAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT, SHE REFUSES TO GO
THAT SHE IS BOYCOTTING IT. SHE ANNOUNCED LAST WEEK THAT SHE
WILL BOYCOTT FEBRUARY’S WOMEN’S WORLD CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP
IN A RAN BECAUSE THE PLAYERS WILL HAVE TO WEAR HIJABS. SHE SAYS SOME CONSIDER HIJABS A
PART OF CULTURE. BUT I KNOW A LOT OF IRANIAN
WOMEN ARE BRAVELY PROTESTING THE LAW DAILY AND RISKING
A LOT BY DOING SO. THAT’S WHY I WILL NOT WEAR A HIJAB
IN SUPPORT WOMEN’S OPPRESSION. UNDERSTAND THE IN IRAN AS A
WOMAN YOU DON’T HAVE A CHOICE WHICH IS WHY SHE IS SPEAKING OUT
AGAINST IT. SHE MAKES CLEAR THAT SHE HAS NO
PROBLEM WITH ISLAM, SHE HAS NO PROBLEM WITH A PARTICULAR
RELIGION, SHE DOESN’T LIKE THE FACT THAT THESE WOMEN ARE FORCED
TO DO CERTAIN THINGS OR FORCED NOT TO DO CERTAIN THINGS. I AGREE WITH HER. I THINK SHE IS DOING SOMETHING
THAT IS IMPORTANT. THIS IS ANOTHER STORY THAT IS
A ROLLER COASTER RIDE. LET’S GO ON THE ROLLER COASTER. 1ST OFF, I CAME IN THINKING OF
COURSE I AGREE WITH HER. BUT IT IS IN IRAN, SO WE HAVE TO
FOLLOW THEIR RULES. THAT DOESN’T MEAN HER PROCESS IS
NOT VALID ON IT IS STILL VALID. BEFORE WE GET TOO ANGRY ABOUT IT
IRAN I CAN’T BELIEVE WE’RE HAVING A CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP
THERE, THERE IS SOME CHANCE THAT THE PERSIANS INVENTED CHESS AND
IN FACT CHECK MAKE MEANS THE KING IS FROZEN OR THE KING IS
HELPLESS. THAT DOESN’T MEAN THAT THEY ARE
RIGHT TO MAKE WOMEN HIJABS. THEN I READ A QUOTE FROM THE
TOP CHESS RANKINGS, SHE PLACED THE NUMBER ONE LUSTER BUT SHE IS
NUMBER FOR THIS YEAR. SHE SAYS THIS IS GOING TO BE THE
BIGGEST SPORTING EVENT IN IRAN FOR WOMEN AND WE HAVEN’T BEEN
ABLE TO HOST ANY WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN ANY SPORTING
FIELDS SO SHE IS SAYING IT IS NOT RIGHT TO CALL FOR A BOYCOTT
AND SHE SAYS THIS IS AN IMPORTANT OPPORTUNITY FOR WOMEN
TO SHOW STRENGTH AND IRAN. I WAS LIKE THAT IS A GOOD POINT. IT’S NOT ENDING THE
CHAMPIONSHIP. SHE IS A ONE PERSON BOYCOTT THAT
SHE CARES A LOT ABOUT THIS. SHE GREW UP IN GEORGIA AND THEY
ARE THEY TEACH CHESS IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. THAT IS AWESOME. I WISH OUR SCHOOLS WOULD DO
THAT. THE IRANIAN WOMAN WHO WAS ALSO
INTO CHEST STARTED SAYING THERE IS A FEMINIST ARGUMENT IN
THERE AND WOMEN SAYING I AM NOT GOING TO BE UPON IN
SOCIETY’S BEAUTIES GAIN THAT IS WHY I LIKE WEARING ONE. WHEN THERE IS A CHOICE THEN
DO YOU. IF YOU WANT TO WEAR IT, BY ALL
MEANS DO IT. THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH THAT. THE PROBLEM ANY RON IS THAT
THERE IS NO CHOICE. THE CHESS FEDERATION SAYS WE
ARE NOT MAKING HER WEAR IT BUT WE ASK THEM TO RESPECT LOCAL
CULTURES. RESPECTING LOCAL CULTURES MAKE
SENSE TO SOME DEGREE. LOCAL CULTURES AND LOCAL LAW
SO ESSENTIALLY THEY ARE LIKE WE ARE NOT SAYING THAT THEY HAVE TO
BUT THEY SHOULD RESPECT THE LAWS AND THE LAW IS THAT IF YOU ARE A
WOMAN YOU HAVE TO COVER UP. THAT WORDPLAY DOESN’T WORK FOR
ME. IN THAT CASE FROM THE FEW
FUNDAMENT CEMENT ARGUMENT ON THE EARLIER POINT, I DON’T AGREE
WITH THEM BECAUSE IF YOU WANT TO WEAR ONE AND IT IS NOT
MANDATORY, I DON’T AGREE, BUT THAT IS NOT UP TO ME TO AGREE,
YOU CAN DO WHATEVER YOU WANT. AS ANNA HAS POINTED OUT THAT IS
NOT THE SITUATION IN IRAN. FINALLY GETS THE END OF THE
ROLLER COASTER RIDE AND SHE TALKS ABOUT HOW SHE IS PUTTING
THIS UP AT MY STEALTHY FREEDOM PROJECT. WHAT THAT IS WOMEN IN IRAN
BRAVE ENOUGH TO TAKE PICTURES WITHOUT THEIR JOB WHICH IS
ILLEGAL. AND PUT IT ONLINE. BUT IT ON FACEBOOK AND THAT
TAKES SERIOUS COURAGE AND SHE IS SUPPORTING THAT MOVEMENT. THEY’RE ALSO PUTTING UP OTHER
PICTURES THAT ARE ILLEGAL INCLUDING WOMEN RIDING BICYCLES. THAT IS ILLEGAL IN IRAN. FOR ALL OF THE PEOPLE WHO SAY
NO, IT IS ALL A CHOICE AND WOMEN WANT TO WEAR IT. REALLY, WOMEN DON’T WANT TO
RIDE BICYCLES IN IRAN? THAT IS SOME SORT OF CULTURAL
THING. NO, IN OUR CULTURE, ICICLES ARE
OBVIOUSLY FOR MEN AND NOT WOMEN. THE ONLY TIME YOU CAN MAKE AN
ARGUMENT THAT WOMEN ARE DOING IT BECAUSE IT IS THEIR CHOICE IS
WHEN THEY LIVE IN A FREE SOCIETY THAT DOES GIVE THEM THE
CHOICE. IN THIS CASE THEY DON’T HAVE A
CHOICE. IT IS MANDATORY. TO SOME WOMEN IN IRAN WHERE IT
AND GENUINELY LIKE IT AND FEEL LIKE IT IS RIGHT FOR THEM? SURE, I AM POSITIVE THERE ARE
SOME WOMEN THAT FEEL THAT WAY BUT THAT IS NOT TO SAY THE
EVERYWOMAN FEELS THAT WAY AND THIS CHESS PLAYER IS
UNCOMFORTABLE. LET ME BE HONEST WITH YOU, IF
SOMEONE TOLD ME YOU NEED TO COVER UP, YOU NEED TO WEAR THIS
HEADDRESS I WOULD LOSE MY MIND. THERE IS NOTHING IN THE WORLD
THAT WOULD MAKE ME PUT THAT ON BECAUSE IN MY VIEW THAT IS A
FORM OF OPPRESSION IF I AM FORCED TO DO IT. I AGREE WITH HER 100%. FOR THE WOMEN WHO ARE IN FAVOR
OF WEARING IT, MORE POWER TO YOU. SHE IS SPEAKING OUT AGAINST
SOMETHING THAT SHE SEES AS WRONG AND I THINK THAT IS A
COURAGEOUS THING TO DO. AT THE END OF THE DAY WHAT
SHE DID WHAT SHE DO ATTENTION TO SOMETHING THAT IS VERY
IMPORTANT AND YOU CAN’T HAVE CHANGED UNLESS PEOPLE ARE
TALKING ABOUT IT AND YOU’VE GOT SOME SORT OF ATTENTION BEING
PAID TO THAT PARTICULAR ISSUE. I THINK SHE DID A GREAT SERVICE
FOR THE WOMEN OF IRAN. THAT TOURNAMENT WILL SURVIVE. SHE IS REALLY MAKING A
SACRIFICE. SHE IS DOING THAT FOR THE WOMEN
OF IRAN BECAUSE ONCE IT IS MANDATED THAT YOU WEAR WHAT THAT
IS OPPRESSION OF WOMEN SO THE FACT THAT SHE WAS FIGHTING
BACK AGAINST THAT IS FANTASTIC AND I REALLY APPLAUD HER COURAGE
IN DOING THIS AND HER PERSONAL SACRIFICE.

  1. I have Moroccan friends. They also hate the hijab. Not because of the hijab but because of the idea behind it. If you show your hair and body you want sex. That's the idea behind it, so the man can do anything he likes. The idea behind it, is stupid. It's disgusting, no means no. How do you know what the woman likes maybe she just wants to look pretty because she is a female and it is her body. She does not want sex. So yes I am supporting this woman.

  2. I fully support her point. The thing isn't about wearing or not wearing, it's about choice! Women have to have the CHOICE to do or not to do, to be or not to be. And as a Muslim, I can tell you that what Iran does is completely wrong according to my religion. In fact, it's arguable whether it's mandatory for MUSLIM women, not to mention the NON-MUSLIM ones!!!! So I stand by her point, I love chess so much, and I know that it's gonna be really hard to let such a chance fly by.

  3. During the 1960s women can show there skin in Iran. But something happen and now they can't because of there leader.

  4. I now longer see religions as a belief – it is a life style.
I do not believe in any religions now because they can not answer basic questions.
Religions are made to hold believers back – they want power over others. How do you control men you control the women – if you do not do what we want we will kill you – we will shun you – we will – we will. But what have they done to help other – WHY ARE THEY NOT PAYING TAXES?? They are making as much money as the biggest companies because they are companies.
Look at the other religions such as catholics WOMEN CAN NOT BE PRIEST WHY NOT – SCARD THEY WILL FOUND OUT THAT MANY MORE PRIEST AND HIGHER ARE STILL USING CHILDREN AS SEX TOYS. Found out that the money is not for the needy but to make the church more powerful.

  5. So would this women refuse to play in France or Belgium next time because some women can't choose what to wear there to?

  6. Greetings from Iran, the Persian Gulf, remove this Zionist installed Islamic regime from my country, and 95% of Iranian women will ditch the "Hijab" and become doctors and engineers overnight.

  7. I think I agree with this woman and what she's doing and I don't like the mandatory dress code laws for women, but I'm curious to know if anyone would object to something like that women can't wear a skirt that falls above the knee, or that it's ok for women to wear skirts, but it's not ok for men to wear skirts, or that men can show their nipples outside on a warm day and women can't? Where is the line on which rules are acceptable and which rules aren't? Is it about religion? Is there a country where men must be hatted? Would that be ok? Is the hijab about sexuality instead of religion? Should people be allowed to be naked in public? Would a rule against that be about sexuality or religion? (Maybe public health…)
We should either have a universal standard, or we should understand universally that standards are not universal. (Which is a universal standard of standards.)

  8. I think it's a little disingenuous of this young lady to say she won't wear a hijab because it oppresses women, when her main claim to fame is winning a championship that only women can play in.  In chess tournaments, players of different strengths are segregated into sections (e.g., Master, Expert, A, B, Open, or Booster).  Having a national or world championship just for women reminds me of the old Bob Costas remark about race walking in the Olympics:  "It's like having a contest to see who can whisper the loudest."

  9. Religion should not dictate country law if an individual want to abide by the laws of a particular religion so be it providing it doesn't break laws of the country. Country does not equal religion so why are the laws the same?

  10. Islam is a LEGAL system and a RELIGION! THAT is the root of the issue. They use laws to enforce their religious ideology. There is NO SUCH THING as religious tolerance to Islam.

  11. Well I guess that means she won't be playing at any colleges or universities seeing as how feminists have taught us that they're the rape capitols of the free world.

  12. Haha YT failed miserably to push femenazi ideology in the developed world so now you`re trying to make yourselves look nice by pretending to care about women in countries that actually have inequality? Cmon this is too funny!

  13. [H.I.J.A.B] hot, itchy, janky, and, boring.  I live in Georgia state of America. I saw a male teacher at an Islamic school telling a little girl to put on her hijab back on, and to only take it of in her house.

  14. Western hypocrites apparently believe they are gods – the absolute source of truth. They believe their "human rights" ideology is the only way to live. Have they ever thought there are different cultures, completely different? I doubt. Western hypocrites seem to consider everyone else barbarians who must be taught. It is fine if someone doesn't want to be taught. Western hypocrites have bombs for those who disagree. Bombs are the absolute source of truth.

  15. Iran should have never be allowed to host chess championship
should have been held in neutral country. Muslims could wear their hijab and the rest of the chess participants could wear what. they want.

  16. u wanna freedom in Iran ?! i know what US regime has done in Iraq in the name of freedom ,democracy, removing mass destruction weapons ?! US regime wanted freedom in Vietnam as well by killing hunderand thousands ppl. i know what capitalism/imperialism have done to people in all over the world, they make earth miserable place in the name of prosperity. wat a hypocracy.

  17. I understand why she disagree to wear hijab. But your going into another country so you should follow their rules. WHICH OF THE TWO DO YOU CHOOSE TO DO. If you don't go there to play chess your a disgrace or follow their rules wear the hijab and win the chess tournament for your country?

  18. Nazi is a hero! She is the U.S. champion of 2016 Cenk! Saying "oh she's just #4 so its not that big a deal." Nazi is a big deal and a hero.

  19. I dont get it.
If you dont agree with someone else's culture, that's fine.
But, it's not fine when you openly protest against them.

I'm Asian, it's like telling us to stop using chopsticks, because some white guy thinks fork is the superior weapon.. I meant utensil.

  20. She is very principled and I respect her decision however, she is not a grandmaster she is an international master. Still she is ten times better than I will ever be

  21. Kind of odd to have an Armenian-American and a Turkish-American talking about a Georgian immigrant who won't play chess in Iran. That's about as Caucasian* as you can get!

*Geographically, not racially… man, I hate people who use that term to mean "white." It makes you sound like a Social Darwinist. Just stop.

  22. You can see the TYT regressive SJW heads spinning during this story:

Priority 1. Defend Islam. Pretend Islam is a race. Make excuses and never allow criticism of it otherwise Al Jazeera will stop sponsering us!!
Priority 2. Virtue signal about feminism and how progressive we are. Shit what do we do!!

  23. Duh, because she's female and the Quran says that women are 1.5 in worth of a man. Any chess player worth their salt, knows that is not a fair trade. Lol

  24. if you can't respect other countries laws and religion so you should shut your mouth and don't say shits about them.thank you

  25. She won the US Women's chess championship. That doesn't make her the number 1 ranked US female player. The rankings change continuously throughout the year based on all tournaments.

  26. Then dont play an iranian game!! None of your feminist countries even wanted to hold the championship game for WOMEN!! Only Iran wanted to host it so put your energy to your own countries for not supporting women. Nazi iranian women dont want anything from you so mind your damn business and let us mind our own!

  27. In this case I think that only the iranians women can decide how to fight for their own rights nobody else. As a visitor you always have to respect the law of the host country no matter what you think about it.. I don't think that the United Nations would allow indigenous women from the Amazonia give a speech at the united Nations topless.

  28. I'm through with professional chess… this nation discriminates against women; does not allow players from some nations to partipate – and FIDE and most of the chess playing elite go along with it? I'll place my interests elsewhere in this world.

  29. This this Federation seems to be bulshit to begin with, I'm a man and I can't see why you would have a male and a female class, chess is a game of the Mind why would you have two classes,, and to allow this tournament to be held in a country that is repressive to women is ridiculous, not much thought went into were they allowed it to be held

  30. Nazi is the new US champion! I'm glad she supports gender equality. Women should not be forced to do anything.

  31. No country’s issues go from 100 to 0%. The activism normally starts somewhere in the middle. Racism is probably somewhere around a 75 in America and minorities have never been more vocal than in the past 60 years. It’s unfortunate women in Iran still have to wear a hijab, but you have to respect them hosting a women’s competition. Be there for the progress, not the end result

  32. Today, 13th June 2108, Indian woman chess player Soumya Swaminathan also pulled out from a chess tournament to be held in Iran from 26th July to 4th Aug,2018 stating that she cannot adhere to Iranian dress code that requires women to wear head scarf. Fair enough. If you don't like to respect dress code of Iran or any other country, don't ever visit that country and don't even dream of migrating to it.

  33. Acording to the Quran women are highly respected in Islam because in the Quran there are several surhas in the Quran that mention the women of Islam and no wife beating is not allowed in Islam nor does it say in the Quran that it is sactiond in fact in Islam you are not allowed to beat your wife also in Islam your mother's feet are the door to heaven so in Islam you have to respect your mother's and respect women

  34. Make that 2 people boycotting. Soumya from India has also boycotted the chess championship. Way to go girls.

  35. Why host an international championship when you can’t but apply your “islamic” rules. Honestly, Muslims know this is not islamic. No part of Islam is about forcing it on others and while they want to keep their country with a strict dress code, they shouldn’t host international championships. Similar saying would go if Saudi Arabia hosted the game! Both of Iran and Saudi Arabia apply their understanding of “islam” in dress code; restrict version of what to wear which is culturally influenced
. Though Iran give females more freedom and independence than Saudi Arabia. They both see eye to eye in traditional or islamic dress code. In my opinion, they are wrong but they have their own vision and therefore, don’t host international games of any kind unless you want to include certain “islamic” countries. It’s unfair for you to force your religion and it would be unfair if any other country enforced the removal of hijab on Muslims. You don’t want anyone to tell you not to wear your hijab in Western countries, how about you don’t force foreigners on wearing it in your country. Double standards!

  36. Yeah, why don’t more of these dumbass feminist pretending to fight for “equality” by pouring bleach on men’s crouches because they’re sitting in a manner that’s comfortable to them

  37. Could you give some one choice to carry Cannabis of Gun in your country?
Could you allow some one in your country to drive car wrong way? or drive car without license? why cant you smoke in no smoking area?

Every immigrant is abide to follow the laws of the country/ every organization has its law.

  38. "But it is in Iran, so we have to follow their rules." What happens when your country is Islamized? Huh?? (not to the male anchor) Today, there are over 50 Islamized countries today. Who's next? Yours?? Think about that! The people in the Pre-Islamic era of the Middle East were NOT Muslims, and then when the Muslims came to power, they told the people with the ideology who were there FIRST how they had to dress, eat, mate with family members, etc. How can Muslims tell foreigners what to do religiously when they have done it themselves as foreigners to the 50 other countries they invaded? That guy on the left is well on his way to becoming a moderate Muslim or an Islamic sepoy. (I just now realized that he is Turkish, so I'm guessing that he is Muslim or at least Abrahamic in some way)

Another thing – no, the Persians did not invent chess. It was the Indians who taught them the game during their trading activities. You have to understand that the 10-digit number system including ZERO came form India. India was a land of plenty, a land of refined civilization. Look up what the word sanskriti (not sanskrit or sanskrita) means – refined thinking and living. The Rāmāyaṇa, the oldest epic in the world that we know of, dates back to 14,200 years ago. The Mahābhārata epic dates back to around 7750 years ago. How could Persians on their own come up with boads games, never mind maths, science, metallurgy, astronomy, ship-building, medicine, and surgery among other topics if they were too busy roaming to find food and water and otherwise trying to defend against rival tribes in search of dwindling resources?

  39. Everyone should have respect to others coulter and religion. I don’t support Nazi on this matter. She is too stubborn.
