Digital transformation is accelerating, with more and more data handled in our everyday life, in our companies and administrations. The car becomes increasingly automated. Energy management relies on sophisticated software. Factories include more and more connected devices. We have to face critical multiple risks as: intrusion into systems, data and identity theft or cybercrime. How to design, in the most efficient way, the cybersecurity of new, more and more complex, future systems? Share, colocate people, pool research on threats and on technological solutions becomes an urgent necessity, as stated by the Prime Minister during the presentation of the French National Digital Security Strategy. IRT SystemX gathers around its research projects and its experimental platforms the excellence of the French Scientific Research with engineers from companies of all size, to work together on trust and cybersecurity, competitiveness and differentiation of the French industry products and services. The goal of our platform is to assess safety and security of hyper-connected system to be deployed in a few years. We simulate, for the demonstration, a use case that involves efficiently recharge of electric vehicle batteries across a territory using renewable energy. The actors are multiple: automobile manufacturers, prosumers, domoticiens, the energy operator with its production plants. This system will be challenged and attacked. To reproduce this system, as an attacker would,
we use open sources to implement the real technologies to be used. We also use today materials pending future so-called smart meters. The first table simulates a neighborhood.
We took the control, within hours, of a central component, called
the data concentrator. This allows us to falsify the measurements generated. We made the more general finding that most constituents of the so-called Internet of Things are today poorly or not protected. The second table reproduces the
operator information system. The automatic dispatching, in case of overconsumption,
will active additional production units represented herein by fans. Two special events are to avoid: the butterfly effect that transforms a local attack, that can reach a large number of objects,
into global consequences. and the domino effect that spreads such attacks on
computer viruses mode. SystemX experimental CHESS platform permits to: handle massive data, model and simulate attacks, visualize threats and experiment and develop innovative technologies like software isolation of critical functions or homomorphic encryption.
