Life-size chess set to get a multi-cultural face lift


Chess is an ancient art form
dating back to the early
7th century in India. Today,
youth in Rotorua are being encouraged to get involved
in a project which will see them share their culture on a 3D
life-size multi-cultural community chess set. Hinerangi Goodman with the story. Although it was pouring wet
and really cold, these two players took absolutely
no notice, instead each one vying
to win this game of Chess. However,
the local co-ordinator of the Rotorua Youth Centre says
while the game is exciting, there will be a new twist
introduced to it. Each piece will be designed
and sculptured to the culture
of the youth creating it. The centre is calling
on 16 passionate youths from all cultural sectors to take part and share
and capture their culture, Applications close in two days. The project will begin next month. An exciting project
and journey which will no doubt be enjoyed
by many. A new game with
a multi-cultural flair to be treasured
