John Maxwell Team Leadership Game – 10 lessons

Hi everyone I’m very excited because for 2019 we will be bringing the John Maxwell to the game for yourself It will more or less So if you’re the kind of persons to contemplate if you want to try the game for yourself So I hope this quick overview will Give you the necessary input that you need and make a decision if you want to try the game out alright, so actually the John Maxwell team leadership game is Is one of the activities that a facilitator for John Maxwell team can organize usually Mentorship members can facilitate leadership game adult and leadership game teams However, for executive directors like me apart from the two I can also facilitate the leadership edition Communication edition and the sales edition So let me give you some sort of an overview of what you can expect if you will Get a chance to play the game So the game actually has a lot of cards. Usually when people are in a in a table, usually from 2 to 12 players So they will pick cards and then whatever is in the card they have to answer or they have to perform the activity and Participants can come from one organization or it can come from multiple Organizations and they can have an interaction and learn from each other. So actually when one thing that I like about the game is that If you’re learning about leadership instead of you learning from the traditional classroom environment You’re looking at a setting where you are in a group you’re from different organizations So there’s no bias So you can exchange insights on the topic exchange insights on the leadership and learn from each other so in this case, we’re looking at the communication edition of the John Maxwell team leadership game that focus on Communication issues where usually a lot of the problems are experienced in different organizations And usually when players play the game. They have peer cards where they can recognize Players who gave interesting answers or who they would like to give a props or a thumbs up for giving a good answer and At times where there is a debate you can also agree or disagree And if you find a person playing the game to be talking too much you can ask them to shut up for a few minutes by giving them the silent time so Another benefit when you get the chance to play the game, is that it it also helps you to think about Your perspective on leadership particularly clarifying your goals because usually there are questions there That would ask what books are you reading? What are your plans to improve yourself among others? So it gives you a spontaneous Time to think about your answer to think about what are your thoughts are what what’s the first thing that comes? that came to your mind that you may be working on and if you’re not thinking of anything or if you don’t have ready answer then that Means also that that is something that you need to spend time thinking about and hopefully be able to plan ahead for the future so that’s another opportunity that the game provides and Another interesting thing about the John Maxwell team leadership game So I showed you earlier though in the first slide The default game is just adult edition. Then we also have the communication edition. We also have a teen edition So for the teen edition, I usually play this game with young people, especially when I go around the country for the Global Youth Initiative or when schools invite me to give talks on k12 or teenagers and clarify you know learn about leadership and same time think about their careers and if they are from an Organization if they have leadership boot camp also clarify their their ideas on leadership know and learn from each other as well another benefit of Playing a game is that it gives you an opportunity to listen and recognize your fears because you usually participants would come from different organizations and Sometimes two or three people will come from one organization and because of the way they answer the questions They find themselves answering questions as an organization that they on topics that they have never discussed amongst themselves and sometimes they will find themselves Surprising each other with the answers that they give in and they realize that they really need to spend more time talking about These issues or these concerns these plans in order to grow as an organization and in order to bond further as a team, so As a as players in the game, of course It’s all meant also in the spirit of learning spirit of fun So when you draw your I agree or I disagree card you can also have an opportunity to explain why you think that way especially in debates and You you will also have we also have a gold card where you can recognize your fears especially for qualities that you redeem them you regarded them for being an extraordinary example and you would like to express your appreciation and for For for their behavior or for their attitude so that’s one thing. I also really like about the game and Another thing that you would experience when playing the game Especially if you are playing it as a community like for example You are an investor’s community, or maybe you belong to an organization and you get to play it It’s an opportunity also to establish a bond especially if you’ve been making on a regular basis talking about different topics, so when you’re together then it’s an opportunity for you to get closer because apart from traditional organizational issues you start discussing things that that comes from your heart that comes from your mind that comes from You know, it’s it’s deep because it’s leadership. It’s really your thoughts your insights your principles your values and And it allows you to get to know each other better in the process So exam questions in the leadership game can include players pairing up in each other to discuss the topic and sharing that with the group and And in the process you learn from what each of the pairs were discussing and in organizations Especially if there are players in the game that are from different each groups or different Seniority or junior or senior is playing in the game It’s it’s also an opportunity to learn from other people’s experiences and if they’re comfortable enough Because the questions are not planned on because you just throw the question so you don’t really know what’s gonna come out it it also gives an opportunity to Learn from each other’s experiences Because it can’t be helped there are questions where you’ll get asked to open up about about a challenge that you are going through and Because it is being discussed. There are other people in the group who may be able to help you out in the process So that’s that’s for me whenever that happens in the game. I find that the game has truly indeed Served its purpose because it fosters an open dialogue among people playing in the game so every piece that you will experience and when playing the game is that there are questions there where if it’s your turn if you If you get a card like this one, then you just share your answer. So So no holds barred. So it’s up to you Just answer it share it but usually we’ll limit the answer time to one minute know among participants and It’s all it will also give you an opportunity to identify areas you want to improve on because as you draw cards, you’d be exposed to a lot of questions and one of the things that you will realize is that there are a lot of questions there that you’ve never really given a thought on and there are Your peers may or people playing the game may also give answers that you never thought of and and that may inspire you also that hey that thing is important. I should really think about that and I should really work on them. No, okay and then you will also find in the game that there are some activities where you have to post some sticky note pad and and put your answer on the board and then if this is an organization Then it’s an opportunity for everyone to talk about it, and then of course if you are playing as A team it’s also an opportunity for you to have some sort of a team building for Cross-functional teams it can also give you that experience and So so it depends on the setting that that you are in It can also give an opportunity for you to have open communication on issues Especially if you if you belong in one organization or You you’re a small group and then there are other groups who also have similar issues So in the process you can also learn from each other so other things that you will also Discover in the game when you play it. Is that there there’s also time for you to discuss among players your thoughts on the questions and then and then share it and And reflect on the statement and what do you think? What do you think about it? So there are no right or wrong answers actually. So it’s these are all discuss in the spirit of learning From each other, Okay So another thing it also gives an opportunity for you to If you’re if you’re playing the game as an organization like in this case in this in this picture The participants were playing the John Maxwell team leadership game sales edition Of course, it’s not it does not necessarily mean it has to be limited to sales teams But it gives an opportunity for people to discuss team-building to discuss cross-functional cross-functional concerns on on different topics in related to sales and sometimes should be surprised of the answers that will be given and some challenges that will also be discussed among participants and They ended up having a resolution also of what are the things that they need to work on? And I think one one thing that is also fun for The game is that there’s also debate like if you if you end up drawing a debate card You have to find someone who can have a debate with you and discuss a topic and then others can Decide whether to whom they agree or disagree and also add their input. So it adds another dynamic Layer in the game. And I think one of the great experiences also that I have with the game is that sometimes there are concerns that are not discussed maybe because everybody’s so busy or or You know, nobody wants to talk about it, but surprisingly because of the game because of the cards that get drawn out in the game sometimes the players may find themselves the Discussing concerns that they haven’t discussed or things that they have thought that they have resolved already But in the process of the discussion, they realize that hey I think we need to spend more time discussing this again when we get back And then usually the game also ends with people Reflecting on how the game changes their view. What are the realizations inside the game? So another thing is that For players to get the chance to play the game also, especially if they are Facilitators like me I facilitate the game but usually if it’s an if it’s played in an organization setting somebody in the organization will also be participating and usually the game also results to a list of concerns that people need to work on or that the organization can work on and address because You know people can talk about it. They can they can come up with it The discussion can resolve to a list of issues that needs to be worked on But if the organization does not give any commitment or will not commit to time and effort to resolve these concerns They would just remain concerns All right, so I hope to I hope this gives you an overview of the John Maxwell team leadership game I’m excited because we’d be bringing that leadership game in various locations this year Because of an event and I think I’m also going around because of Leadership city seminar for a government agency where a lot of people would get to play the game Actually in one of my seminars like the personal leadership development seminar one of the primary reason why I Organized that was because I really want a lot of people to get the chance to experience the game However, since the game is also new and you know leadership games are not really common. I ended up adding topics that we usually Discuss for one hour whenever we do keynote talks or whenever we do corporate talks just to give an overview on speaking sending leadership and coaching so I decided to integrate them here so that but in essence what what the intention really is to get the people to play the leadership game and and usually this is the highlight or the climax of the learning day is for them to get to play it and usually That that gives the memorable experience for a lot of the participants Who who join it Alright, so if you have questions about the John Maxwell team leadership game Please don’t hesitate to send me a private message and I hope you can Make it as one of here to do this to get the chance to play the John Maxwell team leadership game this year All right.
