How to Make a Clay Trout Sculpture : Cutting Clay for Clay Trout Sculpture

JORGE BENLLOCH: Now, we are going to start
cutting the clay. We are going to make like a very thin slab like this. Well first of
all, every time that you cut clay or work on clay, it–that’s very, very important to
have, like, a drop cloth or something to absorb the moist. If not, it’s going to stick. Already,
it’s sticking in here. You can see. Then we are going to use those pieces of wood in order
to ensure that the thickness is going to be even every time that we cut one slab. Then
we are going to put, maybe we need two, maybe we need three. I’m going to use that one because
we are going to add extra thickness to the body and to the head. Now, we are going to
try to weld these three parts by welding like this, putting together. And this is good because
they–it give us, more or less, as the thickness in the center that is what the shape of the
fish have. Now, we are going to add this one here. Now, we are welding this, adding material
where supposedly that we need. This is in order to put the three pieces together so
later it doesn’t break.
