Hillsong TV // Blazing A Trail For Generational Impact, Pt1 with Brian Houston

HUMAN NATURE CAN UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER
OF A DECISION. DO YOU THINK IT’S POSSIBLE TO
LIVE YOUR LIFE IN A WAY THAT HAS AN IMPACT ON GENERATIONS?
DECISIONS WE MAKE IMPACT THE GENERATIONS COMING AFTER US
WHETHER WE LIKE IT OR NOT. DO YOU MAKE YOUR DECISIONS
ACCORDING TO CURRENT CIRCUMSTANCE
OR FUTURE CONSEQUENCE?>>WELL, THANKS SO MUCH
FOR JOINING ME. I BELIEVE TODAY’S MESSAGE,
IT CAN HELP YOU. I WANT TO USE THE BIBLE TO SET
UP JUST SOME PRACTICAL COUNSEL ON CHOICES AND DECISIONS THAT
AFFECT NOT JUST OUR OWN LIVES, BUT YOUR CHILDREN AND YOUR
CHILDREN’S CHILDREN. ENJOY.
>>FATHER, WE THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRESENCE.
LORD, I THANK YOU THAT YOU CAN SPEAK TO PEOPLE THROUGH
YOUR WORD. I THANK YOU IN ADVANCE THAT YOU
WILL SPEAK TO PEOPLE THROUGH THE WORD OF GOD.
WE THANK YOU, FATHER, FOR THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
IN THESE SERVICES. I THANK YOU YOU KNOW EVERY
PERSON GATHERED AND I BELIEVE, LORD, THAT WHAT YOU HAVE
FOR THEM IS MORE THEY CAN EVEN IMAGINE.
THANK YOU FOR IT. IN JESUS’ NAME, AMEN.
WELL, THIS MESSAGE IS CALLED, BLAZING A TRAIL FOR
GENERATIONAL IMPACT. TRAILBLAZING FOR
GENERATIONAL IMPACT. WE’VE BEEN TALKING IN OUR CHURCH
THIS YEAR ABOUT PIONEERING AND PIONEERING AGAIN.
AND, OF COURSE, A PIONEER IS WHAT?
THEY’RE A TRAILBLAZER AND AS A TRAILBLAZER,
THEY MAKE A WAY FOR OTHERS. AND THE IDEA OF LIVING OUR LIVES
IN A WAY WHERE WE ARE BLAZING A TRAIL FOR OUR CHILDREN AND OUR
CHILDREN’S CHILDREN IS SOMETHING THAT, WELL, I REALLY LOVE
THAT POSSIBILITY. MATTHEW CHAPTER 1, THE BEGINNING
OF THE NEW TESTAMENT AND IT’S SO INSPIRING NAME AFTER NAME AFTER
NAME AFTER NAME AFTER NAME. IT STARTS LIKE THIS, THE BOOK IN
THE GENEALOGY OF JESUS CHRIST, THE SON OF DAVID,
THE SON OF ABRAHAM. JESUS, SON OF DAVID,
SON OF ABRAHAM. AND THEN THERE’S JUST ALL
THESE NAMES. “ABRAHAM BEGOT ISAAC, ISAAC
BEGOT JACOB, JACOB BEGOT JUDAH AND HIS BROTHERS.
JUDAH PEREZ AND ZERAH BY TAMAR, PEREZ BEGOT HEZRON, THEN THERE
WAS HEZRON, RAM, AMMINADAB, AMMINADAB.”
HE’S THERE TWICE. “NAHSHON, NAHSHON, SALMON.
SALMON, BOAZ, RAHAB, OBED BY RUTH, AND JESSE, AND JESSE BEGOT
DAVID THE KING.” THAT’S 14 GENERATIONS
RIGHT THERE. AND THEN ALL–IN ALL, IT PAINTS
THE LINE FROM ABRAHAM THROUGH 42 GENERATIONS TO JESUS CHRIST.
AND I GOTTA TELL YOU IN THAT LINEAGE, THERE’S SOME
INTERESTING PEOPLE. THERE’S A WOMEN CALLED TAMAR.
TAMAR SLEPT WITH HER FATHER-IN-LAW.
THERE’S RAHAB, RAHAB WAS A PROSTITUTE AND SHE’S IN
THE LINEAGE THAT LED TO JESUS. AND THEN THERE WAS RUTH, RUTH,
SHE WAS A GODLY WOMAN, BUT SHE’S A MOABITE IN A TIME WHEN
MIXED MARRIAGES WERE FROWNED UPON.
AND YET IT’S AMAZING THAT WHEN IT COMES TO JESUS, THE BIBLE
DESCRIBES JESUS, THE FIRSTBORN AMONG MANY BRETHREN OR
MANY BROTHERS. AND IT’S AN AMAZING THING THAT
EVEN JESUS, IF YOU LOOK AT HIS PAST, THERE’S ALL SORTS OF
HISTORY IN HIS PAST. BUT LIKE JESUS, WHEN WE COME TO
JESUS, IT’S THE POWER OF WHAT JESUS DOES THAT LITERALLY IS
THE FIRSTBORN OR THE FIRST BEGINNING
OF EVERYTHING THAT’S AHEAD. ABRAHAM MADE DECISIONS THAT
AFFECTED GENERATIONS. DAVID MADE DECISIONS THAT
AFFECTED GENERATIONS. ULTIMATELY, JOSEPH, WHEN HE
FOUND OUT THAT MARY WAS WITH CHILD, THE SCRIPTURE TEACHES
THAT HE WAS MINDED TO HIDE HER AWAY SECRETLY BECAUSE OF THE
SHAME AND MAYBE PROTECTING HER, MAYBE NOT KNOWING HOW ELSE TO
DEAL WITH HER SHAME, TO HIDE HER AWAY.
THE SCRIPTURE SAYS IN MATTHEW CHAPTER 1, VERSE 19 THAT
THAT’S WHAT JOSEPH WAS THINKING OF DOING.
IT DESCRIBES JOSEPH AS A JUST MAN NOT WANTING TO MAKE HER
A PUBLIC EXAMPLE, BUT WAS MINDED TO PUT HER AWAY SECRETLY.
BUT AN ANGEL OF THE LORD APPEARED TO HIM IN A DREAM,
EXPLAINED THAT JESUS CHRIST, HIS NAME WOULD BE CALLED EMMANUEL.
AND JOSEPH, WHEN HE WOKE UP, VERSE 24,
“BEING AROUSED FROM SLEEP, DID AS THE ANGEL OF THE LORD
COMMANDED HIM AND TOOK TO HIM HIS WIFE, AND DID NOT KNOW
TILL SHE HAD BROUGHT FORTH HER FIRSTBORN SON.
AND HE CALLED HIS NAME JESUS.” DID NOT KNOW HER TILL HER
FIRSTBORN SON WAS BORN, JESUS. JESUS WAS THE FIRSTBORN OF MANY
BRETHREN, THE BIBLE SAYS, THE FIRSTBORN.
BUT YOU KNOW SOMETHING? JUST LIKE ABRAHAM’S LIFE AFFECTS
FUTURE GENERATIONS AND DAVID’S LIFE AFFECTED FUTURE GENERATIONS
AND MARY AND JOSEPH AND THEIR DECISIONS AFFECT FUTURE
GENERATIONS AND ULTIMATELY JESUS HIMSELF, IMPACTS FUTURE
GENERATIONS, YOUR LIFE, WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT, IMPACTS ON
FUTURE GENERATIONS, GOOD OR BAD. AND I PRAY THAT WE CAN LIVE OUR
LIVES MAKING THE KIND OF CHOICES, THE KIND OF DECISIONS
THAT ARE MADE WITH THE THOUGHT THAT OUR LIVES HAVE
A GENERATIONAL IMPACT. DO YOU KNOW I WAS SITTING IN
CHURCH ONCE AS A YOUNG PASTOR IN MY DAD’S CHURCH, AND I NEVER
KNEW MUCH ABOUT MY GRANDDAD EXCEPT FOR HE HAD A NICE GARDEN.
HE’S ALWAYS FRIENDLY AND–MY DAD STARTS TELLING A STORY I’D NEVER
HEARD HOW THAT IT WAS WELL KNOWN IN THE WHOLE AREA THAT MY
GRANDDAD WAS A PHILANDERER, WAS HAVING AN AFFAIR WITH
A WOMAN ACROSS THE BACK EDGE. AND DURING THAT TIME,
MY GRANDMA, NANA, SHE’S A GODLY WOMAN.
SHE HAD THIS STRONG FAITH, QUIET, STRONG FAITH.
SHE WENT ALONG TO HER BAPTIST CHURCH EVERY SUNDAY ON HER OWN,
SOMETIME WOULD TAKE HER FAMILY OR CHILDREN WITH HER.
IT’S INTERESTING BECAUSE HER FAITH IMPACTED HER CHILDREN.
MY PARENTS MET THEN IN A SALVATION ARMY BIBLE COLLEGE,
THAT’S WHERE THEY MET. THAT’S WHERE THEY GOT MARRIED.
AND IF I LOOK AT THAT AND THEN LOOK AT WHAT I’M DOING TONIGHT
AND MY LIFE AND MY FAMILY, THEN LOOK AT MY CHILDREN
AND ULTIMATELY MY CHILDREN’S CHILDREN, MY GRANDMOTHER’S QUIET
FAITH AFFECTED HER CHILDREN, HER CHILDREN’S CHILDREN, HER
CHILDREN’S CHILDREN’S CHILDREN AND HER CHILDREN’S CHILDREN’S
CHILDREN’S CHILDREN’S CHILDRENS. DON’T UNDERESTIMATE THE IMPACT
OF YOUR LIFE ON GENERATIONS AND THAT’S WHY THE DECISIONS
WE MAKE, WE SHOULD NEVER TAKE LIGHTLY.
DO YOU KNOW DECISIONS HAVE GENERATIONAL IMPACT AND MANY
TIMES WE MAKE DECISIONS OUT OF CURRENT CIRCUMSTANCE.
AND OUT OF CURRENT CIRCUMSTANCE, WE CAN MAKE DECISIONS WITHOUT
THINKING ABOUT FUTURE CONSEQUENCE.
BUT SO MANY OF OUR DECISIONS LITERALLY HAVE A CONSEQUENCE
BEYOND TODAY, BEYOND NOW, BEYOND OUR CIRCUMSTANCE,
BEYOND OUR SITUATION, AND I PRAY EVERY PERSON
HAS THE GODLY WISDOM TO MAKE CHOICES,
THE EVERYDAY LIFE CHOICES. YOU SEE, THERE’S NO SUCH THING
AS A SMALL CHOICE IF IT’S GOT A BIG CONSEQUENCE WHEN IT COMES
TO YOUR CHILDREN OR YOUR CHILDREN’S CHILDREN.
AND MANY SMALL DECISIONS ARE ACTUALLY BIG DECISIONS
IN DISGUISE BECAUSE THEY HAVE BIG CONSEQUENCES.
RIGHT NOW YOU HAVE CIRCUMSTANCES THAT CAN GUIDE YOUR DECISIONS,
BUT GODLY WISDOM NEVER THINKS ABOUT JUST NOW.
DOESN’T MAKE PERMANENT DECISIONS IN TEMPORARY CIRCUMSTANCES.
JUST BECAUSE SOMETHING SEEMS TO BE THE EASIEST THING TO DO NOW
IS NOT ALWAYS THE BEST THING TO DO WHEN IT COMES TO BELIEVING
THAT A WISE PERSON’S CHILDREN’S CHILDREN, AMEN, A WISE MAN
LEAVES AN INHERITANCE FOR WHO? HIS CHILDREN’S CHILDREN.
AND BY THE WAY TO ME OFTEN THE FINANCIAL INHERITANCE
IS THE SMALLEST PART OF THAT HERITAGE.
SO YOU’RE GETTING THE IDEA OF WHAT I’M THINKING ABOUT.
AND I LOOK AT MARY AND JOSEPH. JOSEPH, IN VERSE 19,
HE HAD A DECISION TO MAKE. HE WAS OF THE MIND.
HE WAS MINDED TO HIDE MARY AWAY. BUT INSTEAD OF THAT, HE DECIDES
TO BE OBEDIENT TO GOD AND OUT OF THAT DECISION, WELL, WE KNOW
THE STORY AND THE IMPACT IT HAS ON GENERATIONS,
BUT LET ME TALK TO YOU A MOMENT ABOUT JOSEPH AND MARY’S
OWN HOUSEHOLD. WE KNOW HIS FIRSTBORN.
HIS FIRSTBORN IS JESUS. BUT WHAT A LOT OF PEOPLE MAYBE
DON’T THINK ABOUT SO MUCH IS THAT JESUS HAD A WHOLE LOT OF
HALF BROTHERS AND SISTERS. MARK CHAPTER 6, VERSE 3,
IT STARTS TO TALK AND IT’S A CYNICAL CROWD POINTING AT
JESUS THE CARPENTER AND LOOKING AT JESUS THE CARPENTER
THEY SAID, “WELL, WHO DOES HE THINK HE IS?”
AND THEY SAID, “IS THIS NOT THE CARPENTER, THE SON OF MARY,
THE BROTHER OF JAMES, JOSES, JUDAS, AND SIMON?”
SO THERE’S FOUR BROTHERS AT LEAST.
“AND ARE NOT HIS SISTERS HERE WITH US ALSO?”
SO AT LEAST FOUR HALF BROTHERS, TWO SISTERS AT THE VERY LEAST.
SO JOSEPH IS ACTUALLY THE FATHER IF YOU INCLUDE JESUS,
WHO’S HIS STEPSON, OF AT LEAST SEVEN PEOPLE.
AND YOU THINK ABOUT THE CONSEQUENCE OF A DECISION,
NOT ONLY ON ALL OF US HERE, BUT ON HIS OWN HOUSEHOLD.
YOU SEE FIRST OF ALL, THIS STORY’S TALKING ABOUT UNBELIEF
IN MARK CHAPTER 6. IT’S TALKING ABOUT
THE UNBELIEF IN JESUS’ HOMETOWN THAT SURROUNDS HIM.
AND IN VERSE 4 IT GOES ON SAYS, “JESUS SAID TO THEM, ‘A PROPHET
IS NOT WITHOUT HONOR EXCEPT IN HIS OWN COUNTRY,
AMONG HIS OWN RELATIVES, AND IN HIS OWN HOUSE.'”
YOU SEE, THE UNBELIEF WASN’T JUST OUTSIDE OF HIS HOME.
HIS OWN BROTHERS WERE FINDING IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT HIS CLAIMS
TO BE NOT JUST A SON OF GOD, BUT THE SON OF GOD,
A SAVIOR OF THE WORLD, THEY WERE FINDING THAT
HARD TO SWALLOW. HEY, BUT WOULDN’T YOU IF YOUR
OLDER BROTHER STARTED WALKING AROUND THE HOUSE SUDDENLY
AT THE AGE OF 30, STARTS DOING MIRACLES SO-CALLED
AND SUDDENLY HE’S TELLING YOU THAT HE’S THE SON OF GOD,
HE’S THE SAVIOR OF THE–I KNOW IF MY OLDER BROTHER HAD
TOLD ME HE WAS THE SAVIOR OF THE WORLD, THAT HE COULD SAVE ME
FROM MY SINS, HE WAS THE CAUSE OF MOST OF MY SINS.
SO DON’T BE TOO HARD ON HIM. BUT LISTEN TO THIS,
JOHN CHAPTER 7, VERSE 5, IT ACTUALLY TELLS US,
“FOR EVEN HIS OWN BROTHERS DID NOT BELIEVE IN JESUS.”
THEY DIDN’T BELIEVE HIM, THAT HE WAS THE SON OF GOD.
IN FACT THEY SAID, “HEY, IF THESE CLAIMS ARE TRUE, WHY DON’T
YOU GO TO THE BIG CITY? AND IN THE BIG CITY, WHY DON’T
YOU MAKE THOSE CLAIMS THERE AND START BELIEVING FOR THESE THINGS
YOU TALK ABOUT TO HAPPEN THERE?” AND THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT
JESUS DID. AND IT WAS IN THE BIG CITY THAT
ULTIMATELY HE WAS BEATEN AND BRUISED AND LOST HIS LIFE
AND CRUCIFIED BECAUSE OF THE CLAIMS THAT HE WAS MAKING
TO BE THE SON OF GOD, THE SAVIOR OF THE WORLD.
HE LOST HIS LIFE AND IF YOU CAN IMAGINE THE SCENE THERE ON
THE CROSS WHERE WE KNOW MARY WAS THERE AS HIS MUM AND THERE’S
EVERY CHANCE THAT HIS BROTHERS WERE THERE AS WELL.
AND NOW THEY HADN’T BELIEVED THAT HE WAS THE SON OF GOD.
YOU KNOW HIS BROTHERS, THEY INCLUDED JAMES AND JUDE.
JAMES AND JUDE BOTH WROTE BOOKS IN THE NEW TESTAMENT.
THEN THERE WAS SIMON ANOTHER BROTHER AND YET ANOTHER BROTHER.
AND THEY DIDN’T BELIEVE. AND AFTER 3 DAYS, WE KNOW WHAT
HAPPENS, JESUS IS RISEN FROM THE DEAD.
AND PAUL, HE’S TELLING THE STORY AND AS PAUL TELLS THE STORY IN
1 CORINTHIANS CHAPTER 15, VERSE 7 HE SAYS THIS,
IT SAYS, PAUL SAYS, “THEN HE WAS SEEN.”
THIS IS THE RESURRECTED JESUS WAS SEEN BY JAMES.
NOW JESUS’ OWN BROTHER WHO KNEW THAT JESUS HAD DIED ON A CROSS
WAS SEEN WITH HIS OWN EYES, THAT JESUS CHRIST WAS NOW ALIVE,
THAT HE WAS RESURRECTED AND JAMES BEGAN TO BELIEVE.
IN FACT, IF YOU START READING ON THROUGH SOME OF THE SCRIPTURES,
ACTS CHAPTER 1, VERSE 14, IT TALKS NOW, OF COURSE,
AFTER THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS IT SAYS, “THESE ALL CONTINUED
WITH ONE ACCORD IN PRAYER AND SUPPLICATION, WITH THE WOMEN
AND MARY THE MOTHER OF JESUS, AND WITH HIS BROTHERS.”
SO NOW HIS BROTHERS NOT ONLY BELIEVE THAT THEIR BIG BROTHER
IS THE SAVIOR OF THE WORLD, BUT THEY’RE PRAYING AND SEEKING GOD.
THERE’S JAMES WHO WAS A DEVOUT JEW AND NOW HE’S WORSHIPING HIS
OWN OLDER BROTHER. SO I THINK ABOUT JOSEPH.
JOSEPH, THERE’S NO SIGN IN THE SCRIPTURE THAT HE WAS ANY
GREAT LEADER. HE DIDN’T, THAT WE CAN SEE,
WRITE A BOOK. YOU KNOW, HE DIDN’T GET UP
AND PREACH. THERE’S NOT A LOT ABOUT HIM
PERFORMING ANY MIRACLES. YOU GET THE IDEA JOSEPH’S JUST
A HUMBLE, HARD-WORKING MAN WHO HONORED GOD AND PUT GOD FIRST
IN HIS LIFE. AND YOU LOOK AT JOSEPH AND MARY,
THEN LOOK AT THEIR OWN HOUSEHOLD BECAUSE ULTIMATELY JAMES,
JESUS’ HALF BROTHER, WROTE THE BOOK OF JAMES,
BUT HE ALSO BECAME A PILLAR OF THE CHURCH.
WHEN THE APOSTLE PAUL FIRST CONVERTED TO FAITH IN JESUS,
CONVERTED TO FAITH, THE PERSON WHO MENTORED AND DISCIPLED HIM
WAS JAMES, JESUS’ BROTHER. JESUS WOULD TRAIL UP TO
JERUSALEM TO BE MENTORED BY JAMES.
AND SO HERE JAMES WROTE A BOOK OF THE BIBLE, A GREAT LEADER.
ULTIMATELY IN A.D. 63, HE’S MARTYRED FOR HIS FAITH.
HE LOSES HIS LIFE AND HIS PLACE WAS TAKEN BY SIMON, YET ANOTHER
SON OF JOSEPH AND MARY IN TERMS OF HIS LEADERSHIP AND HIS PLACE,
THEN THERE’S JUDE. JUDE’S A BROTHER OF JESUS.
HE WROTE THE BOOK OF JUDE IN THE NEW TESTAMENT.
AND SO JOSEPH AND MARY’S CHOICES AND DECISIONS DIDN’T–OBVIOUSLY
WE KNOW ABOUT JESUS BUT IN ACTUAL FACT, THEY MADE DECISIONS
WITH THE WHOLE HOUSEHOLD IN MIND.
DO YOU? DO WE MAKE DECISIONS THINKING
ABOUT NOW OR ABOUT THE FUTURE? SOMETIMES THERE’S NO SUCH THING
AS A SMALL DECISION. YOU HAVE TO MAKE DECISIONS.
A DOUBLE-MINDED PERSON IS UNSTABLE IN ALL THEIR WAYS SO
DOUBLE MINDEDNESS, NOT BEING ABLE TO MAKE CHOICES,
IS INSTABILITY. SOMETIMES OTHER PEOPLE WHEN IT
COMES TO DECISIONS, THEY’RE RULED BY STABILITY.
THERE’S NO PIONEERING AGAIN, NO TRAILBLAZING.
THEY JUST DON’T WANT TO TAKE RISKS.
THEY JUST WANT STABILITY. SOME PEOPLE ERR ON INSTABILITY,
NO DECISION. OTHERS ONLY MAKE SAFE DECISIONS
WHILST IN THE MEANTIME MANY PEOPLE MAKE JUST MANY DECISIONS,
IMPULSIVE DECISIONS, WITHOUT REALLY THINKING PAST THEIR NOW
AND TO THE FUTURE AND TO THEIR CHILDREN.
AND SO THERE’S INSTABILITY, THERE’S STABILITY AND DECISIONS
CAN LEAD TO TRAGEDY. BUT LET’S MAKE GODLY CHOICES
THAT ARE CENTERED AROUND THE PURPOSE OF GOD
AND BELIEVE WHAT GOD COULD DO. SO THE FIRST NAME IN
THE NEW TESTAMENT IS ABRAHAM, KNOWN AS THE FATHER OF OUR
FAITH. ABRAHAM IS THE FATHER
OF YOUR FAITH. AND ABRAHAM, GOD SPOKE TO HIM
AND PROMISED HIM BLESSING. GENESIS 12, “I’LL BLESS YOU.
I’LL MAKE YOUR NAME GREAT. YOU’LL BE A BLESSING.”
THEN GOD STARTS TO SPEAK TO HIM ABOUT A PROMISED LAND, TELLS HIM
HE’LL GIVE HIM THE PROMISED LAND AND STARTS TO SPEAK TO HIM ABOUT
DESCENDANTS, ABOUT GENERATIONS. STARTS TO SPEAK TO HIM ABOUT
THE BLESSING BEING A BLESSING THAT WAS GENERATIONAL
AND INVOLVED DESCENDANTS. AND YOU KNOW IT GETS TO
THE POINT WHERE ABRAHAM, HE LEAVES HIS OWN LAND, HIS OWN
HOME AND HE MOVES TO THIS SO-CALLED PROMISED LAND.
AND JUST AS HE GETS THERE, A FAMINE HITS THE LAND SO
ULTIMATELY HE FINDS HIMSELF IN EGYPT AND THEN AT THE RIGHT TIME
GOES BACK TO THAT LAND WITH LOT. LOT WAS HIS NEPHEW,
HIS BROTHER’S SON. YOU KNOW LOT, ‘CAUSE IT’S HIS
WIFE, COULD LOOK BACK AND LOOK BACK ON SODOM AND EVERYTHING
SODOM REPRESENTED AND WAS TURNED TO A PILLAR OF SALT.
SO HERE THEY ARE NOW, BOTH ABRAHAM AND LOT.
THEY’RE BOTH BLESSED AND THEY’RE IN CANAAN AND THE LAND
CAN’T SUSTAIN BOTH OF THEM. SO THEIR HERDSMEN–I’M TELLING
YOU THAT STORY PARAPHRASED. THEIR HERDSMEN ARE FIGHTING
AMONGST THEMSELVES AND ULTIMATELY IT GETS TO THE POINT
WHERE ABRAHAM SAYS TO LOT, “YOU CAN MAKE A DECISION.
YOU MAKE A CHOICE. IF YOU GO TO THE RIGHT,
I’LL GO TO THE LEFT. IF YOU GO TO THE LEFT,
I WILL GO TO THE RIGHT.” IT’S IN GENESIS CHAPTER 13
IF YOU WANT TO LOOK THERE. GENESIS CHAPTER 13, VERSE 9.
I’M ABOUT TO START APPLYING ALL OF THIS TO YOU IN JUST
A MOMENT’S TIME. SO GET READY FOR IT.
THIS IS WHAT ABRAHAM’S SAYING, “‘IS NOT THE WHOLE LAND
BEFORE YOU? PLEASE SEPARATE FROM ME.
AND IF YOU TAKE THE LEFT, I’LL GO TO THE RIGHT; OR,
IF YOU GO TO THE RIGHT, THEN I WILL GO TO THE LEFT,’ HE SAYS.
AND LOT LIFTED HIS EYES AND SAW ALL THE PLAIN OF JORDAN, THAT IT
WAS WELL WATERED EVERYWHERE (BEFORE THE LORD DESTROYED
SODOM AND GOMORRAH).” SO WHAT HE WAS LOOKING TOWARD
WAS TOWARD SODOM AND TOWARDS GOMORRAH.
“AND LIKE THE GARDEN OF THE LORD, LIKE THE LAND OF EGYPT
AS YOU GO TOWARD ZOAR.” AND THIS IS WHAT I WANT YOU
TO SEE, VERSE 11, “THEN LOT CHOSE FOR HIMSELF.
HE CHOSE FOR HIMSELF ALL THE PLAIN OF JORDAN,
AND LOT JOURNEYED EAST.” HE CHOSE FOR HIMSELF AND WHAT HE
SAW THERE WAS A LAND THAT WAS WELL WATERED.
IT WAS LIKE A GARDEN. IT BASICALLY REPRESENT COMFORT
AND EASE AND LIFESTYLE, AND HE MADE A CHOICE THERE FOR HIMSELF.
WE CAN SO EASILY MAKE CHOICES FOR OURSELVES ABOUT NOW,
OUR CIRCUMSTANCE, THIS TIME, WHAT’S EASY,
WHAT’S BETTER FOR ME. WE CAN MAKE CHOICES
FOR OURSELVES. AS I LOOK AT ABRAHAM,
HE CENTERED HIS LIFE AROUND THE CALL AND THE PROMISE OF GOD
SO HIS LIFE AND HIS DECISIONS, WHICH HAD GENERATIONAL IMPACT,
CAME OUT OF CALLING AND PURPOSE. YOU CAN MAKE DECISIONS FOR
YOURSELF OR YOU CAN MAKE DECISIONS THAT REPRESENT
THE CALLING AND THE PURPOSE OF GOD.
AND I’LL TELL YOU, BOTH WILL IMPACT GENERATIONS JUST NOT ALL
OF THEM WILL IMPACT GENERATIONS THE SAME WAY.
SO NOW HERE’S ABRAHAM. LOT’S GONE AND I’LL PICK UP
THE STORY, GENESIS CHAPTER 13 AND VERSE 14
WHERE “THE LORD SAID TO ABRAM AFTER LOT HAD SEPARATED
FROM HIM: ‘LIFT YOUR EYES NOW AND LOOK FROM THE PLACE WHERE
YOU ARE–NORTHWARD, SOUTHWARD, EASTWARD, AND WESTWARD; FOR ALL
THE LAND WHICH YOU SEE I’LL GIVE TO YOU AND YOUR DESCENDANTS
FOREVER, HE SAYS. AND I WILL MAKE YOUR DESCENDANTS
AS THE DUST OF THE EARTH; SO THAT IF A MAN COULD NUMBER
THE DUST OF THE EARTH, THEN YOUR DESCENDANTS ALSO COULD
BE NUMBERED.” HE STARTS AGAIN TO BRING PROMISE
AND BLESSING AND GENERATIONAL IMPACT TO ABRAHAM IN THAT LAND.
LOT TOOK THE EASY WAY. ABRAHAM JUST STAYED TRUE
TO THE CALL OF GOD AND THE PROMISE OF GOD
WAS ON HIM AND HIS CHILDREN AND HIS CHILDREN’S CHILDREN
AND ULTIMATELY LED ALL THE WAY TO JESUS.
>>WELL, WHEN IT COMES TO JOSEPH AND MARY WE, OF COURSE,
KNOW JESUS, THEIR FIRSTBORN SON, A SON TO MARY
AND A STEPSON TO JOSEPH. BUT JOSEPH AND MARY MADE
DECISIONS AROUND THAT TIME THAT AFFECTED JESUS,
THEIR OLDEST SON. JESUS MADE THE ULTIMATE DECISION
IN THE GARDEN WHERE HE SAID, “LORD, IF THERE’S ANY OTHER WAY,
TAKE THIS CUP FROM ME. NEVERTHELESS NOT MY WILL BUT
YOURS BE DONE.” AND ME MADE THAT CHOICE TO HONOR
GOD THE FATHER, LAID DOWN HIS LIFE AND AROUND THAT, JESUS’
LIFE, IMPACTED HIS OWN HOUSEHOLD JUST AS MUCH AS IT IMPACTED
GENERATIONS TODAY. HE HAD THESE BROTHERS,
THE BIBLE DESCRIBES. AND DO YOU KNOW FROM JESUS’
TESTIMONY AND ULTIMATELY THROUGH JESUS’ LIFE, JAMES, HIS BROTHER
WROTE THE BOOK OF JAMES IN THE NEW TESTAMENT.
JUDE, ANOTHER BROTHER WROTE THE BOOK OF JUDE IN
THE NEW TESTAMENT. AND JESUS’ LIFE HAD AN IMPACT ON
HIS OWN BROTHERS AND ON HIS OWN SISTERS.
AND I LOOK AT JOSEPH AND IN THIS PROGRAM, I TALKED ABOUT JOSEPH
AS JUST BEING MAYBE A HARD-WORKING HUMBLE MAN,
NOT NECESSARILY ANYONE WHO DID ANY GREAT THINGS IN TERMS OF
LEADERSHIP OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT BUT WAS JUST OBEDIENT TO GOD.
AND OUT OF OBEDIENCE TO GOD, HE SAW THE PURPOSES OF GOD.
JOSEPH WAS THE FATHER OF AT LEAST FIVE SONS, IF YOU INCLUDE
JESUS, AND TWO DAUGHTERS BECAUSE THEY WERE SISTERS.
AND THE BIBLE TELLS STORIES ABOUT THOSE SIBLINGS OF JESUS
AND THE WAY JOSEPH AND MARY’S DECISIONS AND THE LIFE OF JESUS
IMPACTED THEM. AND THE TRUTH IS WHEN WE MAKE
RIGHT CHOICES, WE DON’T MAKE CHOICES JUST OUT OF SELFISHNESS
OR ABOUT OURSELVES AND ABOUT NOW AND ABOUT CURRENT CIRCUMSTANCE,
BUT WE MAKE THEM WITH THE PURPOSE OF GOD IN MIND
AND THE CALLING OF GOD ON OUR LIFE IN MIND, THEN OUR CHOICES
AND OUR DECISIONS WILL AFFECT OUR HOUSEHOLD.
ULTIMATELY IT WILL AFFECT OUR CHILDREN AND OUR
CHILDREN’S CHILDREN. IT’S GENERATIONAL.
THE BIBLE SAYS A WISE MAN LEAVES AN INHERITANCE FOR HIS
CHILDREN’S CHILDREN. AND TO ME, A GODLY INHERITANCE
IS ABOUT SO MUCH MORE THAN JUST, WELL, A FINANCIAL INHERITANCE.
IT’S ABOUT THE KIND OF THINGS THAT CHILDREN CAN GAIN THAT SETS
THEM UP TO WIN IN LIFE IN TERMS OF CHARACTER, OPPORTUNITY,
BLESSING, ALL THOSE THINGS. SO LET’S MAKE WISE CHOICES
AND LIVE OUR LIVES IN A WAY WHERE WE’RE THINKING NOT ONLY OF
OURSELVES BUT OF OUR HOUSEHOLD AND ABOUT THE FUTURE.
>>I LOVE MY MUM AND DAD. THEY’VE TAUGHT MY SISTER AND I
SO MUCH AND I LOVE THE DECISIONS THAT THEY’VE MADE.
YOU KNOW WITH EVERYTHING IT BENEFITS BUT ALSO MY KIDS ARE
REAPING THE BENEFITS OF WHO THEY ARE AS PEOPLE AND THE DECISIONS
THAT THEY’VE MADE. MY MUM AND DAD WERE BOTH
FROM ZIMBABWE. MY DAD WAS IN THE ARMY FOR ABOUT
6 YEARS OR 7 YEARS, AND IT WAS ONE OF THOSE MOMENTS WHEN HE WAS
AT WAR HE REALLY HAD AN ENCOUNTER WHERE HE PROBABLY
SHOULDN’T HAVE LIVED AND MADE A DECISION THEN AND THERE THAT
IT WAS TIME TO GET THEIR LIVES RIGHT WITH GOD.
THEN IN ’86 OR ’87, MY DAD GOT A JOB TRANSFER OPPORTUNITY
AND THEY MADE A DECISION THEN TO TRANSFER OUR WHOLE FAMILY
TO AUSTRALIA. THEY CAME OVER TO AUSTRALIA
WITH, YOU KNOW, A COUPLE OF HUNDRED DOLLARS IN THEIR POCKET,
YOU KNOW, SO THEY HAD TO LEAVE BEHIND A LOT OF THEIR
OWN WEALTH. AND, YOU KNOW, I THINK THAT’S
JUST THE MOST INCREDIBLY BRAVE DECISION, YOU KNOW, 36, 37,
PACKING UP YOUR ENTIRE FAMILY WITH 2 YOUNG, VERY YOUNG GIRLS,
YOU KNOW, MOVING ACROSS THE OTHER SIDE OF THE PLANET
WITH NO FAMILY THERE BUT KNOWING THAT IT WAS THE RIGHT THING TO
DO AND KNOWING THAT IT WAS GONNA SET US UP FOR AN AMAZING FUTURE
AND IT DEFINITELY HAS DONE THAT AND THAT’S THE BEAUTIFUL THING
ABOUT GOD. JUST BASED ON ONE DECISION THAT
MY MUM AND DAD MADE TO BE FAITHFUL AND TO TRUST GOD IN
A BIG STEP AND NOW WE’RE REAPING THE FRUIT OF THAT.
THERE’S THINGS THAT I SEE IN MY PARENTS THAT I JUST WANT TO
REFLECT AND BE A GREAT EXAMPLE FOR MY KIDS.
I DON’T WANT TO BE THE KIND OF MUM THAT IS AFRAID, BUT I WANT
TO BE A BRAVE MUM AND I’VE SEEN MY MUM MAKE DECISIONS THAT HAVE
BEEN BRAVE, AND I WANT TO BE THAT KIND OF A PERSON AND I HOPE
I AM THAT KIND OF PERSON. >>WELL, THANKS SO MUCH FOR TAKING THE TIME TO JOIN ME.
I PRAY GOD’S PROMISE AND GOD’S PURPOSE OVER YOUR FAMILY.
AND I TALK TO PEOPLE OBVIOUSLY NOW, SOME MAYBE YOU DON’T
HAVE CHILDREN. MAYBE YOU’VE BEEN TOLD
YOU CAN’T HAVE CHILDREN. OTHERS, YOUR CHILDREN ARE NOT IN
A GOOD PLACE AND YOU’RE ANXIOUS AND YOUR HEART IS GOING
TOWARD THEM. AND I JUST PRAY GOD’S PURPOSE
FOR THEM. GOD BLESS YA.
HAVE A GREAT WEEK. JOIN US AGAIN NEXT TIME.
